Balmain S/S 2012 Collection

Just thought I'd post some of these amazing pictures of Balmain's S/S 2012 collection. Balmain is a long time favourite of mine and always caught my eye when looking through the runway section of Russh Magazine. Strong structured shoulders, sharp necklines and sumptuously patterned material make for a deliciously delightful collection. For the first collection from Balmain's new creative director, Olivier Rousteing, I think its a pretty amazing result. Willow Smith Badassery

From badass chic, to casual cool, to grunge rock glam to elegant beyond her years, Willow Smith, the 11 year old fashion prodigy already has a  vast and inanely funky wardrobe by the looks of it. It's amazing how her dress sense still seems to be appropriate for her age, I could never pull off Adidas heels and jeans or studded boots paired with a Chanel dress, even now, but somehow this magical 11 year old makes it work. I'll be keeping my eye on her as she gets older, to see what other tricks she's got up her sleeve.

Gail Sorronda (Reid) Fashion Talk

"When compassion and complacency collide, there is death"

Without sounding like a suck ass, I'd just like to start off my saying that Gail is probably one of the most beautiful creatures I've ever seen! She's well-spoken, stunningly modest and more surprisingly, she's from Woodridge. A QUT graduate who modelled through Brisbane based Dallys models; she dabbled in business and interior design before finally deciding to explore fashion. After successfully selling her handmade accessories to stores within Brisbane (most notably Bessie Head), she branched out into clothing through the work she was doing at University. After having a few of her pieces in Australian Fashion week, she was picked up by Sydney’s “The Corner Shop”. Since then, her collections have manifested, evolved and unsurprisingly, expanded worldwide.  

She’s lived in Paris (in a neighbourhood that was once filled with the likes of Patti Smith, Yves Klein and Picasso!), modelled for Kenzo, was noted as "one to watch" in UK Elle, her pattern maker’s mother worked as Karl Lagerfeld’s patternmaker for 25 years, she’s met Anna Wintour, Georgio Armani  and Donatella Versace have looked through (actually touched!) one of her collections and Stefano Gabbana was quoted in the Wall St Journal as saying “I love Gail Sorronda, its my taste”. I could go on and on and on about all of her achievements, but I won’t, the list is ever-growing and  probably infinite.  

I will, however, share with you the pieces of advice she gave to the intimate group of QUT students last night, on how to succeed within the fashion industry. She started her talk with two tips: "gain as much experience as you can and the worst they can say is no". As she wrapped her speech up however, she added that “you must always know your strengths, travel and make good use of mentorship”. These pieces of advice seem so vital to a person’s success in fashion, and I know for sure that I will keep them in mind as I continue to try and build up a portfolio of my fashion writing.

For her new collection entitled “Oh My Goth!” Gail has revealed that she will be incorporating colour into her pieces rather than sticking to her, sometimes restrictive, usual black and white colour scheme. Her fiancée, Atlas, and her have moved back to Brisbane for the time being to work on their presence  both locally and within Asia. They hope to open up a store in James St, Brisbane, even though they already have stores in Paris, London and Japan. Needless to say, I’m incredibly excited to see what she creates next!

Boys and babes, welcome to Gail Sorronda's Autumn/Winter Collection for 2012! Heavy on the sophisticated, sensual necklines and delightfully cut hemlines, this is layered perfection at its finest. I read about this dazzling designer through a university email and fell in love. I get to hear her speak tomorrow night and I feel I'm the luckiest girl in the world. This stark and intense photo shoot topped this collections whole feel off for me, just stunning. Christian Dior Couture Fall 2011 Collection

Oh my! Bold colours, statement cuts, neon makeup, brilliant headpieces, layers upon layers upon layers of material, chunky geometric necklaces, strappy sandals, high-voltage hairdo's and delightful models! What more could you ask for from Christian Dior's Couture Fall collection for 2011 (yes I know I'm late, but again, just found a piece from this collection on tumblr and when someone told me who created this astonishing collection, I just knew I had to tell you about it, in case, like me, you have been living under a rock and have not yet seen this utter beauty). I cannot fault this collection at all, simply wondrous!
